KALMAR
At Kalmar we have always been the forerunner in new technologies and innovative solutions to provide value for our customers, which is why this collaboration is so interesting. Together with Elonroad, we can be the first on the market to demonstrate a charging solution of “unlimited onboard energy ."

Executive Vice President of Strategy, Sustainability and Technology at Kalmar
Challenge
Kalmar, the forerunner in sustainable material handling equipment and services, is partnering with Elonroad to build a 200-meter electric road for electric vehicles used at ports at Kalmar’s Innovation Center in Ljungby, Sweden.
This project's core is an innovative solution combining Elonroad’s automatic charging technology with Kalmar’s expertise in distribution, ports and terminals, and industrial applications. This enables electric vehicles to be charged both while in motion and stationary, which could completely change the way heavy vehicles are operated by reducing the need for large batteries, lowering grid capacity demands, and improving vehicle uptime.
Solution
The project will initially retrofit a Kalmar reach stacker and a terminal tractor, followed by a verification phase to test charging efficiency and uptime improvements on the electric road. In the second stage of the project, the technology will be tested in a real-life port environment with pilot customers
Outcome
The project aims not only to improve the environmental impact but also to create safer and more reliable operations. Through a comprehensive data collection and monitoring system, Elonroad and Kalmar have the tools needed to demonstrate the reduction in total cost of ownership and environmental benefits while also contributing to safety standards.
